Get to know…Pacific Cod!

The waters of Alaska are full of the oceans bounty! One of the more versatile fish that is caught just off the coast of Alaska in the Bering Sea is the Pacific Cod. 

Also known as True Cod or Alaskan Cod, Pacific Cod has a mild, firm white meat that is perfect for pairing with your favorite seafood recipe. Here are some other fun facts about our Pacific Cod:

  • The Pacific Cod fishing season is usually between January and May of each year.
  • Pacific Cod live for up to 20 years.
  • They can grow up to 6 feet in length.
  • This fish spawns from January to May on the continental shelf edge and upper slope in waters 330 to 820 feet deep.
  • Females are able to reproduce at the age of 4 to 5 years and they produce more than 1 million eggs when they spawn.
  • Pacific Cod feeds on clams, worms, crabs, shrimp and juvenile fish.
