This twist on a classic grilled cheese sandwich pairs tart green apple wonderfully with our favorite protein, Salmon. You might think it’s a waste of a premium seafood product like Salmon, but taste makes this recipe absolutely worth doing. Consider using smoked salmon for an amazing variation!

Ingredients for One Sandwich

  • 2 slices thick cut sourdough bread
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 4 slices white cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup cooked salmon, flaked
  • 4 slices green apple

Directions

  1. Heat a skillet over medium heat. Spread each slice of bread with softened butter on one side. Place one slice into the pan, buttered-side down.
  2. Layer two slices of cheese, followed by salmon, apple slices, and then two more slices of cheese. Top with the second slice of bread, buttered-side up.
  3. Cover the pan and allow the sandwich to get golden brown on one side, and the cheese begins to melt.
  4. Flip the sandwich, cover again, ad cook until golden on the other side and cheese is completely melted.
  5. Slice in half and serve.
